Finally the Versa Haul Military Bomb Disposal Robot Carriers are now in available exclusively from Discount Ramps. For the last 3 years Discount Ramps has been working closely with the US Army EOD Functional Managers, EOD Program Manager from Robotic Applications and Versa Haul to design a hitch mounted bomb robot carriers to transport bomb disposal robots on the rear of a Hummer military vehicles.

The project started in 2003, when Lee Lederhause (sales manager & father of Joel Lederhause-CEO of Discount Ramps) received a phone call from Marshall Doc Dutton (EOD Program Manager for Robotics) wanting to purchase a Versa Haul VH-90-RO atv carrier to transport bomb disposal robots into a live war environment. Lee sold the atv carrier and the Army put it through a vigorous testing procedure in a rugged war environment. We soon found out that the atv carriers were not holding up to the intense terrain the military was putting the Hummers and robots through. During 2003, Lee, Doc, Versa Haul and some of the functional managers continued to make modifications and improvements to the carrier so it met the standards the military needed to safely transport these robots. To make a long story short, during the year of 2003, we went from a bolt-on hitch mounted carrier that slowly progressed to a super duty VH-MI-RO, military grade bomb robot carrier that has a reinforced main support tube 700 lbs. and will install in seconds by sliding the main tube over the bumper of any military Humvee. It has adjustable carrying platform rails with non-skid material, spring loaded folding ramps coated with a durable non-skid spray on bedliner coating.

In December of 2004 Lee was diagnosed with cancer and was unable to work so I continued to work closely with the EOD division and fine tune the VH-MI carrier in 2005 and 2006. We built a total of 12 different carriers for test purposes throughout the 3 year period. The carriers have gone through vigorous testing by the military until we came up with a model that meets the U.S. Army approval for transporting bomb disposal robot carriers. We try to keep at least 10 carriers in stock at all times. We are still working on getting a GSA Contract. We hope to have the GSA in place by January of 2007.

This page is dedicated in memory of Lee who was involved with the original design of this military carrier & helped make this product possible. (Author: Bob Kay)
