Have you ever had a scratch on your motorcycle, and it felt like a mortal wound? Worse yet, a scratch that came from moving your bike on a trailer or in a pickup truck, not even while riding? Possibly the result of a little carelessness or plain old bad luck, it’s a bitter pill, magnified by the additional blow of not even having a thrilling tale to go with it…

Humble though it may be, the soft loop could have prevented the ugly scene altogether.

Soft loops are surprisingly inexpensive, relatively low-tech pieces of nylon webbing used to create quick, secure strap tie-down connections. They work along with tie down straps to hold down your motorcycle, ATV, lawn tractor or snowmobile during transport while protecting the finish from the ratchet strap hardware. and are especially useful for equipment without obvious tie down points. By looping inside itself, a soft loop creates a stable slip knot that is less likely to loosen or slide along the tie-down point during travel, even while trailer tie downs are subject to heavy vibrations. Soft loops are a dependable solution for any tie down situation where it is imperative the equipment’s surface does not get scratched.

Available in different sizes and break strengths, check a soft loop’s working load rating to determine the maximum weight the soft loop can support with regular, day-to-day use. Learn more about break strength, working loading rating and tie down straps in general here.

Follow these steps to secure soft loops on your trailer, pickup truck or other vehicle:

Step 1: Wrap the soft loop around the desired tie-down point.

Step 2: Insert a loop end completely through the opposite loop end.

Step 3: Pull the inserted loop tight for a firm hold. This will cinch the opposite loop tightly against the surface.

Step 4: Insert the strap hook into the soft loop end previously pulled through.
