Purchased HandiRack and THULE QUEST CARGO BAG.Used them togeather on my 4 door large american car.
Mounted with very little problems, but could not determine front orback of the bag. Mounted the HandiRack as far forward in the front door as possible and as far back in the back door as possible. Filled bag part way up with gifts, etc.
Everything looked good. Then it RAINED!
The rain ran down the straps of the HandiRack and thus rained inside the car. The front HandiRack moved itself as far back in the front door as possible, thus causing/allowing the bag to “puff” up.
When we unloaded the bag several days and many miles later, the inside of the bag was soaked and contained wet leaves. As well as wet gifts!
I think we should have mounted the bag with no zipper to the front. I think the bag would have worked better with a REAL roof rack. I think the HandiRack should have made it clear to mount them at the back of the door frame. I think the rain was very bad luck.
All in all very troubling, but not a complete disaster as I have some humor.
Recommendations:
Mount HandiRack at back of each door frame.
Use THULE QUEST CARGO BAG with a real roof rack, not the HandiRack.
Mount the THULE QUEST CARGO BAG with zipper to the back.
Mount the THULE QUEST CARGO BAG as spread out as possible.
Do not travel with the THULE QUEST CARGO BAG in the rain.
