Importing From China Supports American Based Jobs
Posted: March 30, 2012 by discountramps in Discount Ramps NewsTags: American Jobs, Discount Ramps.com, DiscountRamps.com, Importing from China
Here is a post from our shipping department about the benefits of importing from China:
“Contrary to popular belief, importing from China helps create and support American based jobs. Discount Ramps.Com currently employs 41 employees with plans to add 21 new full time employees over the next three years. The ordering process starts with our purchasing department who places our order with the foreign vendor. Once the order is received the vendor emails the purchasing department a performa invoice (PI). Once the PI is received we enter a purchase order into our system and wire a down payment from our American based bank. From there China begins to fulfill our order and load the product into a metal shipping container. Once the order is close to completion the vendor notifies Geodis Wilson that our order is ready to ship. Geodis Wilson is one our freight management companies who transports our containers from China to the United States. Geodis Wilson employs roughly 400 employees in the United States. Geodis Wilson will assign our container to be loaded onto an ocean bound vessel that will sail from China to Tacoma, WA or Los Angeles, CA. When the container arrives in the port, US Customs inspects the container. US Customs employs countless government based US jobs. Once the container has been cleared by customs, it is loaded from the ship onto a rail car destined for Logistics Park in Chicago, IL. By using rail cars, numerous American based jobs are maintained – from the conductor to the many men and women that service the rail cars, unload the rail cars, and maintain the rail tracks. At this time Aim Transfer is notified that we have an inbound container and they notify Discount Ramps.Com that we will have a container and request us to choose a delivery date. Aim Transfer is our premiere intermodal transportation company that picks up our containers from Chicago and delivers to our location in West Bend, WI. Currently AIM Transfer employs 175 employees in their Oak Creek, WI location. When the container arrives at our location it is hand unloaded by Discount Ramps.Com receiving team and is counted and put away in our warehouses. From there the creative design team creates a web page to advertise the new product that we have just received. The sales staff sells the item to the customer and the accounting department bills the customer for the order. The product is then packaged and shipped by the Discount Ramps.Com shipping department and picked up by UPS. We ship roughly 90% of our orders through UPS. UPS is a Worldwide shipping company that employs roughly 358,400 employees in the United States. The other 10% of our product is ship via Freight Line and we primarily use Con-Way, YRC, Dayton, ABF and Roadrunner which supports countless American Based jobs. To sum it all up, importing from China creates and supports numerous American based jobs.”
Holiday Recipes – Soft Pretzels
Posted: December 13, 2011 by Jacci B in Discount Ramps NewsTags: Discount Ramps News, Discount Ramps.com, eggwash, Holiday Recipes, Soft Pretzel Recipe, soft pretzels
I started making soft pretzels almost 2 years ago. These have been a hit at holidays, football parties and other family events. My first batch (pictured below) I did a combination of the traditional pretzel and a bite sized one. I would say the bit size have been a lot easier to make for me and have been more popular with the family.
The recipe below is from http://www.thefreshloaf.com/recipes/pretzels
I’m giving the shorter version along with how to make the bite sized ones. If you want to see how to make the full sized please visit the link above.
Pretzels
Makes 6 large pretzels or a lot of bite-sized pretzels
1 teaspoon instant yeast
1 tablespoon malt powder or brown sugar
2-3 cups all-purpose unbleached or bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk (approximately 110 degrees, which is 1 minute in my microwave)
Combine ingredients in a stand-up mixer leaving out 1 cup flour. Once it’s all combine, slowly add in the remaining cup of flour till a dough ball can be formed.
Knead the dough till it’s smooth, then let rise for 30 minutes.
Once done rising, beat down the dough then place it on a floured cutting board. Cut the dough in half then each section in half. Continue doing this till they are the wanted size.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
At this point bring water to a boil in a pan and boil each piece for about 5 to 10 seconds. It really isn’t much just long enough to see the shape expand a little. I moved them for a minute or two to a wire cooling rack to allow excess water to drip off then move them to a baking sheet, brush them with an eggwash then sprinkle on a coarse salt.
These then cook for about 8-12 minutes till the tops are brown.
